"I really appreciated the opportunity to learn how the articles are debated and formulated, and the democratic process to approve or reject the proposed amendments to the constitution. There is a lot of thought and work put into make the constitution strong and I really got a sense of that commitment. I also enjoyed meeting the plethora of attendees from every part of the county, and Canada, and hearing their stories of how a strong union connection improved lives.
The keynote speakers were amazing and motivating. Their stories and messages just underlined how critical it is in this county to have strong unions fighting for employee working conditions and wages. Strong unions support strong workers, who in turn can support a vibrant and healthy economy and standard of living for everyone.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to attend as a delegate. I will never forget this experience."

"I attended the UFCW International Convention this year and had a marvelous time. I will confess that I am still a little suspect of choosing Las Vegas as a venue for a union function but I recognize that many of my fellow convention goers, like myself, would never have otherwise had the opportunity to visit such a place. Having said that, the main takeaway from this convention for me was the fact that we are an incredibly strong and diverse union. Our strength lies in our diversity and the fact that, As a union, we choose to stand up for one another, in the face of a system that is continually working to weaken worker protections and widen the divisions between each of us. Our union is 1.3 million members strong and, standing together, we can exert a tremendous amount of power and influence. Certainly we have our disagreements, as evidenced by some of the more contentious votes on the floor, but ultimately, we are brothers and sisters in labor and that bond was always apparent in the convention hall and out on the streets.
Were I to be forced to choose a favorite moment, speaker or experience, I am not sure that could comply. I will say, however, that I have thought back many times since then to the speech given by Jagmeet Singh and his reference to being in "rising spirits". He explained this as a reminder to stay optimistic in the face of despair. Certainly, the political environment of today presents many opportunities for despair. But with that despair, and the accompanying desperation in the country and the world, there is rising a spirit of, not just resistance, but change. This spirit of change and courage in the face of institutionalized and sometimes seemingly insurmountable opposition is what I feel I have really been able to take away from this year's UFCW International Convention."
