WPEA’s dues are 1.25% of the member’s gross
monthly wage to a maximum of $52 per month. This
deduction is taken twice a month.
The Washington State Department of Personnel
payroll system is set up to take 1.25% of the semi-monthly
gross wage on the 25th of each month – this is for the 1st
through the 15th of the month. The remainder of what would
equal 1.25% of the monthly gross wages or the maximum of
$52 is deducted on the 10th of the following month - this
is for 16th through the end of the month.
-
The way the payroll system processes
the union deduction may result in a larger dues
deduction on the 25th payroll than the 10th payroll.
Below are some examples of how dues may be deducted:
-
An employee’s monthly salary is
$4,200. The semi-monthly gross wage for the 7/25
pay check (7/1-7/15) is $2,100. The payroll system
will take 1.25% of $2,100 equaling $26.25. On 8/10,
the payroll system will take the difference of
$26.25 from $52 or $25.75. The $52 deduction
is for the month of July.
-
An employee’s monthly salary is
$3,000. Their semi-monthly gross wage for the 7/25
pay check is $1,500. The payroll system will take
1.25% of $1,500 equaling $18.75. Because the
deduction is based on 1.25% of the monthly salary
($3,000 x 1.25% = $37.50), the deduction on the 8/10
pay check will be the same ($37.50 / 2 = $18.75).
-
The salary cap for the maximum
deduction of $52 is $4,160 a month. If your
monthly salary is over this amount the 1.25% will
always be calculated on the first pay check for the
month which is the 25th and the difference will be
deducted on the 10th of the month pay check. This
means the deduction will be more on the 25th payroll
than the 10th payroll.
-
If your monthly salary is below
$4,160, an equal amount will be deducted on each pay
check.
-
If your deduction
card is not received until after the 7/25 payroll cutoff, the 1.25%
will be taken on your 8/10 pay check, (7/16 - 7/31),
which will cover the month of July. On your 8/25 pay
check (8/1 - 8/15) the deduction will be 1.25% of
your gross wages for that pay period with the
balance deducted on the 10th pay check (8/16 -
8/31).
-
For new members, the first deduction
will always be the 1.25% of the gross wages.
Thereafter the 1.25% will always be taken on the
25th pay check with the balance taken on the 10th
pay check.
