Costco’s profits are up $1.2 billion dollars on the year, yet they are implementing a 10% increase in the membership fees. Why raise fees when profits are up? Turns out that spending millions on liquor privatization efforts year after year is expensive! Costco has put another $1.7 million in cash towards the I-1183 campaign. Costco has spent more than $7 million in cash on 1183 since June, and spent more than $3.6 million in cash promoting the failed I-1100 campaign last year.
Are you a Costco member? How do you feel about them raising your membership fees while spending millions to privatize liquor? Let them know! Share your thoughts with Costco directly through their website.
The Washington State Labor Council has made their position on Costco and 1183 clear: at the 2011 Washington State Labor Council Convention, the delegates passed a resolution encouraging affiliated unions and members (that means us!) to cease doing business with Costco. Read the WSLC resolution
