Contracts ratified by more than 90 percent
September 28, 2012
WPEA members voted to ratify both the 2013-2015 contracts by more than 90 percent. General Government members approved their new contract by 94 percent and Higher Education members approved their new contract by 92 percent.
WPEA staff counted the ballots on September 28. Members from the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Revenue and Pierce College observed the vote count.
Thank you to our General Government and Higher Education bargaining teams for all their hard work.
Highlights of the new contracts include:
- Starting July 1, 2013, the salary schedule will revert to the previous, 2009-2011 salary schedule, WITHOUT the 3% salary reduction.
- Also starting July 1, 2013, a new Step M will take effect for employees who have been at Step L for six years. This will mean an immediate 2.5% raise for hundreds of employees, with hundreds more reaching Step M over the coming years.
- Starting July 1, 2014, there will be a PROVISIONAL 1% raise for all bargaining unit employees PROVIDED that the state revenue forecast for fiscal year 2015 is at least $200 million higher than the September 2012 forecast.
- Health benefits will be covered under a separate contract, allowing negotiations to continue on this important issue.
Thank you to the bargaining teams
Thank you to the General Government and Higher Education bargaining teams for their OUTSTANDING work on behalf of co-workers. These courageous members met with extreme resistance from management on a wide range of compensation and working condition issues. But through solidarity and persistence, they were able to achieve meaningful gains for WPEA members:
