The time to take action is NOW! With contract negotiations coming to an end in mid-September, the bargaining teams need your support now more than ever!
The State has proposed a pay cut at the bargaining table, essentially asking tens of thousands of public employees to accept less. After 25 years of pattern bargaining, Washington Public Employees have lost between 20-30% of their purchasing power. In response, thousands of public employees are standing up and joining the Walk Out for Washington!
This statewide collective action, organized by WFSE and joined by WPEA, is a bold demand for livable wages, safe staffing levels, and respect for the Washingtonians who depend on us every day.
WPEA is not alone in this fight. We are joining forces with WFSE to send a strong message to the State: Enough is enough! Together, we can demand a fair contract and better working conditions for all.
When: Tuesday, September 10th, 2024 at 12:00 PM (noon)
What You Need to Do:
Request leave: Take time off starting at noon on September 10th.
Our contracts provide for numerous types of leave. It is time the State pay it's employees what they are worth!
Organize with your coworkers: This is a coordinated collective action—not a picket or strike, but a powerful demonstration of our unity. If it makes sense geographically, check out these rally locations and join WPEA members:
Bellevue College – 3000 Landerholm Cir SE, Bellevue, WA 98007
Clark College – Memory/Mill Plain Park E Evergreen Blvd, Vancouver, WA 98663
DNR and DOR at the Natural Resource Building – 1111 Washington St SE, Olympia, WA 98504
Washington State School for the Blind – 2214 E 13th St, Vancouver, WA 98661
Olympic College - 1600 Chester Ave, Bremerton WA 98337
Show your power: By stepping away from work, you're showing the State that we won’t stand for being underpaid and undervalued. Our labor makes Washington run, and our power lies in taking that labor away, even for just a short time.
WPEA is not alone in this fight. We are joining forces with WFSE to send a strong message to the State: Enough is enough! Together, we can demand a fair contract and better working conditions for all.
If you or your coworkers are interested in hosting your own gathering, please fill out this form and be sure to include “WPEA” in the employer section and check the “WFSE member” checkbox.
If you need a WPEA staff member to be on site, please reach out to [email protected] so we can help coordinate support.
Thank you for your dedication and solidarity. Together, we are strong.
